The National Association of Realtors will raise annual membership dues by $30 and also publish the names and photographs of members who violate the profession's code of ethics, the organization announced Saturday.
NAR currently collects $120 per member in annual dues . The association's board of directors voted to raise that amount to $150 in 2019 to pay for new programming, NAR President Elizabeth Mendenhall said in a statement. Members also pay an additional $35 per year to fund the organization's advertising activities.
"Raising membership dues is never an easy decision, but funding more initiatives and the association for the future will enable us to better serve our members," Mendenhall said.
The board also voted to make changes to NAR's code of ethics, including publishing the names and photographs of violators along with descriptions of the violations. The group did not say where the information would be published.
In addition, the board voted to strengthen notification requirements for buyer's offers.
"We have heard from members for years about strengthening professionalism, and today we took an important step forward," Mendenhall said. "The changes we made to the Code of Ethics will bring invaluable benefit to consumers and allow Realtors to serve them to the best of our abilities." http://bit.ly/2GBkb0z
